I have never been mushroom hunting before. Mostly it consists in strolling slowly through the woods, chatting amiably, looking down and poking around under the leaves with a stick. I was pretty good at spotting poisonous mushrooms, especially the large bright red ones that prominently poked through the bed of leaves on the ground. My companions were experts in seeing the brown and grey varieties that were good to eat (but not as photogenic). Our best catch of the day was a large cepe mushroom with a cap of perhaps 8 inches n diameter. With that and a couple of other smaller cepes put a bunch of bleu pieds, we had enough for a tiny appetizer for the evening meal.
