Japan-Sendai
Flying over Canada en route to Narita & Sendai, April 5, 2007
I’m off, seat 11H Business Class, United Airlines flight to Tokyo. On the video I’m watching Mrs. Potter a biopic about the life and work of Beatrix Potter. A nice story, quite sentimental and romantic. I don’t know why, but watching it really chokes me up, really. This seems a regular event on overseas flights: watching sentimental movies about human connections and love and then feeling all choked up. Sometimes it is thin romantic comedies; sometimes, an interesting historical story with threads of feeling. Beatrix Potter is learning to dance with her publisher, and here I am feeling intensely emotional, even tears. I supposed my normal sentimentality gets intensified by the excitement of the trip, being alone in the strange isolated company of the large plane…
