Japan-Kyoto
Tuesday night in the Amherst guest house, Doshisha University, Kyoto
I am sitting in the dinning area of the guest house at Doshisha University in Kyoto. This is a wonderful building with only five guest rooms—actually two room suites in a Japanese style with sliding doors with paper windows (actually there are also glass windows to the outside—these are kind of inner windows), very simple furnishing, completely wonderful. It is on a small dead end street next to the grounds of a large (and apparently famous) Buddhist temple, so it is utterly quiet and peaceful. I am the only one staying here right now, so I have the whole place entirely to myself. The wireless signal is too weak for me to get it consistently in my room, so I cam down here to check email, listen to NPR and try to Skype home later…
