At one point toward the end of the tour the person who was showing us around, Mikel Uribetxebarria, who was the president of the sociopolitical council of the cooperative, asked if anyone wanted to work at one of the finishing stations. I eagerly volunteered. My job was to file away the rough edges of an aluminum casting. I later wrote Becky an email saying, “Just think, in a year or so there will be someone driving a car somewhere in Europe with an engine partially made by a sociologist.” She replied that that was a pretty scary thought!
